Emily Sanders, a 25-year-old from Detroit, Michigan, set out on December 23rd with high hopes of reaching Toronto to meet her boyfriend for Christmas. Although she had heard warnings about an approaching snowstorm, she didn’t give it much thought. She assumed that much like in Michigan, police would simply detour (使绕道) traffic around any closed sections of the highway. But that didn’t happen. As the snow came down more and more heavily, Emily was directed off the highway. She drove on for a while and found herself on an unfamiliar road toward a Canadian town.
The blinding whiteout made driving nearly impossible. At one point, Emily’s car got stuck. After a struggle, she managed to free the vehicle and continued inching along the snow-covered road. As night fell, panic set in. While Emily was driving on a narrow stretch of road, her car slid into a ditch (沟). She tried to call for help but found no signal on her phone. Seeing no hope of immediate rescue, Emily decided to spend the night in her car. She wrapped herself in a blanket, waiting for morning. To stay warm, she ran her engine for a few minutes every now and then. Eventually, she fell asleep.
Emily awoke to a gentle knock on her car window. Standing outside were Daniel and his wife Rachel, who noticed the stranded (被困的) vehicle on their way home and stopped to see if they could help. When Emily rolled down the window, Rachel asked if she was okay and told her it was not safe to stay overnight in the car. With genuine warmth in her voice, Rachel said they could take Emily to a nearby cafe they knew. Grateful and relieved, Emily accepted the offer.
In the cafe, the couple bought Emily a hot chocolate and listened patiently as she explained her desperate situation: she was about a hundred miles from her destination, her car was completely stuck, and her entire holiday plan could be ruined.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

Two threads:
Personal growth: Love makes us brave, but not blindly brave.

C. Kelly
Daniel and Rachel suggested that Emily continue her journey by train. They also promised to rescue her car afterward. Warmed by the hot chocolate, Emily gratefully nodded. On the drive to the station, Rachel gently took her hand and reminded her to take weather warnings seriously next time. “Love makes us brave, but being blindly brave can put us at risk.” Emily’s eyes welled up with overwhelming shame and regret. “Stupid me! Without you, I might have been frozen to death!” Rachel wiped her tears. “We were young and stupid, too. I’m glad you’re learning this lesson.” Daniel flashed a knowing smile in the rearview mirror. At the station, Emily hugged them tightly, her lips moving, words stuck in her throat. Hours later, she fell into her boyfriend’s arms in Toronto, pouring out everything that had happened.
Three days later, Emily returned to get her car. The snow melted and so did her heart. The couple had pulled her car from the ditch, cleaned it up, and checked it over. Smiling through tears, Emily handed them a thank-you card she had painted and cookies her boyfriend had baked. “You pulled me out of a ditch, or rather, a blind chase. This lesson is our best Christmas gift,” she said, showing them the backup charger her boyfriend bought. Rachel’s eyes lit up. “We can't ask for better thanks!” Ever since, the old couple have received a Christmas card each year from the young lovers, now a happy couple themselves. Emily keeps the train ticket as a witness to their growth and a reminder to always pay forward the lesson and the warmth.
D. Kelly
E. Kelly
1.读完题,脑海里最早翻腾出来的是这句——“Love makes us brave, but being blindly brave can put us at risk.” Emily.
2.“At the station, Emily hugged them tightly, her lips moving, words stuck in her throat.”——这句反复polished了多次。 后来,这句后面的两个并列的独立主格便出来了:“her lips moving, words stuck in her throat.”
3.“The snow melted and so did her heart.”——这句最初只是“The snow had melted.”Kelly觉得这样的环境描写过分寡淡,想让环境烘托一下心情,灵光一闪,把melt和heart搭配起来,妙啊! 为了这个音韵美的倒装结构“so did her heart”,只能把原本的过去完成时(The snow had melted.)
4.“Ever since, the old couple have received a hand-painted Christmas card each year from the young lovers, now a happy couple themselves. Emilly keeps the train ticket as a witness to their growth and a reminder to always pay forward the lesson and the warmth.”——故事里的物件或动物有时和人物一样重要,它们可以意象化,如电影《给阿嬷的情书》里的木棉花,Kelly早期发表在《爱V高中英语》公众号的《2023年全国1卷读后续写里》的horse,本公众号《176因犬生隙,终以犬破冰 (2025年新高考1卷读后续写)》里的狗Toby,《141. Henry and Portia's wedding gift.
You are what you write.
